What We Do is provide a glimpse into the spirit of the Hills

Rapid City and the Black Hills are the Mid West’s best kept secret.  An oasis in a sea of prairie, it is abundant in natural beauty and meaningful adventure with endless possibilities.  At its heart is a community that has never met a stranger, that has and will always believe in the virtue of Midwestern hospitality.

Why We Do It – to be the ultimate gathering place for individuals seeking entertainment, enriching their lives and providing them with memories that will last a lifetime.

In 1972, Rapid City was devastated by one of the deadliest floods in US History.  This was a disaster that could have decimated the community, however local leadership rallied together, looked towards the future with hope and optimism.

From that disaster a plan was formed to create places where the community could gather.  Parks and green spaces were established and what was originally known as The Rushmore Plaza Civic Center was built.  Now known as The Monument, we opened in 1977 with Elvis Presley and since then we have continued to entertain millions, no longer serving just our local community and region, but becoming an entertainment hub for travelers from across the country.

As we look ahead to the next 50 years, we strive to stay true to the spirt of the 1972 dreamers, risk-takers, and builders; the spirt of the city; the spirit of possibility.
